LyondellBasell is failing

3rd largest chemical company will (likely) file for bankruptcy according to WSJ.

Well, this is another bad new for chemical industry after (Dutch lay off 5% workfore and Dow lay off 5000, BASF also layoff ). I see this is a good news for Biotech. I see a lot of chemists (hard core good chemists - not the fuzzy biological chemist, like myself) will move to biotech. They will infuse a new idea and prospective.

If biotech can maintain their position in the economy right now ( good sector relatively speaking). They are going to be the first sector to rebound after this down turn.

YAHOO is publishing news from next year!

YAHOO pubished this article today (12/30/08) while dated 1/1/09. I think they are in serious trouble.

Then in the article, it said "10. Yen to Become Currency Peg Asian countries could shun dollar pegs in favor of the Chinese yen this year, according to Saxo Bank. China's economic, political and cultural influence is growing and shifts in market re-evaluations will favor the country, the report added."

Last time I checked, Yen is used by Japanese and Yuan is used by Chinese. How do they make the mistake?

This remind me, don't believe anything the internet said. They are drive stock up and down with fault info (big deal when clinical trial result are published). Read the paper itself to make the decision.

Cramer long Lily but short Genetech!

He said he likes LLY but not DNA.

I think one of the bio pharma is going to buy DNA. Like LLY, not I like Merck (NRK) better.

Merck now trying to sell biosimiliar

This make so much sense. I am so glad that make the move. Kudo to Dick Clark. The reason for Big pharma get into this business is you need money, alotof, money to get them approve by FDA. Well, at sep, 08 Merck is sitting on 7 billion cash. 7,000,000,000. Yep, 9 zeros. So, there is very little risk for them to make the drug and market them. Smart move! Go Dick!

Now I do have the following question for Dick. What is stopping PFE, JNJ, BMY. GSK etc enter the same market. Now you are looking at couple big pharma fighting for a maket. Not a cool sitution. I hope their marketing know what they are doing.

ABI + IVGN = LIFE

As seen trading magazine. Now that the are merged, make me wonder why they merge? IVGN just "invested" 44million right before US enter "official recession", I am wondering what are the management thinking to move cash around like this during the credit crisis and "the other" recession.

Zinc Finger -

SGMO are now $3 a share. I am going to load it up and hold them for 5 years until someone find out a better way to edit Genes.

Sangamo BioSciences is engaged in the research, development, and commercialization of DNA-binding proteins for the therapeutic regulation and modification of disease-related genes. Co. has a proprietary technology platform that is based on the engineering of a naturally occurring class of proteins referred to as zinc finger DNA-binding proteins (ZFPs). Also, ZFPs may be engineered to create zinc finger nucleases, or ZFNs , which can be used to cut genomic DNA at a pre-selected sequence location, enabling ZFN-mediated disruption of genes that are responsible for disease pathology, correction of genes that contain disease-causing mutations, or the targeted addition of a selected DNA sequence.
